Seasonal Wine Boxes - Spring & Summer
Summer is here and it's time to get ready for those long summer nights. Our Cellar Master, Johann Fourie, has been busy with our colleagues in the UK to curate a case of wines that will make your summer evenings even more special.
Our goal was to find wines that were lively, interesting, and full-bodied, and to brighten our spirits and take us away to the sunny climate of Benguela Cove and its bright days, and breathtaking South African sunsets.
The result is a selection of six wines that will be sure to leave you feeling refreshed and ready for summer fun!
What is in the Seasonal Wine Box?
-
Like its predecessor, this style of cool climate Sauvignon Blanc takes you right to the oceans’ edge where you can smell the salt in the air at Benguela lagoon. Bone-dry with a citrus-like acidity, this wine is reminiscent of the Old World while the fruit leaps from the glass to remind you where it is from. Its vibrant character makes it a great food companion and with plenty of fruit and a crisp palate.
-
Its attractive and racy character is toned with nuances of kiwi and citrus, elevated by hints of gunflint, a fresh minerality, and great length to conclude. Pungent tropical aromas linger on the palate with persistent and mouth-watering acidity.
-
Peach pink in colour this delicious medley of fruit, florals and candied aromas opens doors to enjoy this wine as an aperitif or to complement an array of colourful dishes.
-
'Cab is King' they say and a cool climate wine region carries that crown with flair. Assertively Cabernet Sauvignon with those quintessential aromas of dried herbs, salty liquorice, robust dark fruit and astute tannins.
-
Five red cultivars combine forces to introduce a wine that delivers on fruit purity with enough gravitas to announce intensity, balance and charming freshness.
-
This Sparkling wine allures with vivid aromas of candied apple, pear and sweetgrass that comes to life when the fine mousse explodes on the surface. The expected bright acidity is balanced with a tangy finish, concluded with a fresh floral note. Absolutely delicious and versatile.
Why are our vineyards so unique?
There's nothing quite like a South African wine. And we're not just talking about the climate—it's the soil that makes these wines so great.
Our vineyards are exposed to the wrath of the stormy Cape winds, which are also a friend to our vines, keeping them cool in the heat of summer. This wind is an integral part of what makes these wines so full-bodied, aromatic, and complex.
In South Africa, the Benguela Cove is truly a special place—the birthplace of some extraordinary wines now gracing many lunch and dinner tables around the world. The dream was to create a world-class and sophisticated wine tourism destination. That dream is happening now!
Over in England, it's not quite as warm as it is down under. But don't let that fool you: our UK vineyards at Mannings Heath Golf and Wine Estate are producing some incredible wines with unique flavours that can only come from extreme weather conditions like frosty seasons, plentiful rainfall, wind speeds, and gusts that could exceed 10 mph—and heatwaves in the summer season!
And all this makes for some pretty special wine—something you'll want to try for yourself in the not-too-distant future.
